At FutureSense Foundation, we are committed to Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13): Climate Action by embedding sustainability into everything we do. Our environmental initiatives focus on reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable change within the communities we support. Through creative, community-driven solutions, we are not only minimising waste but also fostering a culture of climate responsibility and action.
Across our hubs, our in-country teams and project participants are working on innovative projects to reduce plastic waste, from repurposing materials for education to inspiring communities to rethink their environmental impact. Here are just a few of the incredible initiatives making a difference:
In our Thailand hub, local learners are transforming plastic bottles into floating boats! As part of our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) workshops, this hands-on activity equips learners with engineering principles, teamwork, and environmental awareness, proving that waste can have a second life.
We run STEAM workshops across all our hubs, and by reusing materials for these activities, we reduce waste, promote sustainability, and inspire creative problem-solving.
Last year, our project participants collaborated with the local community to create an incredible bottle cap mural at one of our partner schools in Tanzania. This initiative encouraged local learners, local shops, and families to collect used bottle caps, preventing them from ending up in landfills or oceans.
By repurposing plastic into vibrant, meaningful artwork, we’re not just reducing waste—we’re raising awareness and sparking community-wide environmental responsibility.
Proper waste management starts with education and is key to achieving sustainable change. In Nepal, we’re providing waste-segregated bins to schools and community partners, empowering local learners to collect, sort, and dispose of waste responsibly.
This simple yet powerful initiative helps instill long-term environmental habits, creating future leaders who will carry these values into their communities and beyond, leading to sustainable change.
In India, we’re taking plastic waste and turning it into something beautiful—butterfly and bee feeders! Discarded plastic bottles are repurposed into feeders filled with juice, installed around local farms to support biodiversity.
This initiative reduces landfill waste while helping sustain local ecosystems, proving that small changes can have a big impact.
