Among them, 400 million children attend schools without proper sanitation – a basic human right that many take for granted. At FutureSense Foundation, we believe that no child should have to choose between their health and their education. But in the communities we support, the choice is a daily reality.
In one of our partner schools in Tanzania, 455 girls face unsafe, unhygienic, and degrading toilet conditions. This isn’t just an inconvenience – it’s a direct barrier to learning, health, and dignity.
That’s why we’ve launched a campaign to raise £6,500 to build 22 new toilets during the June school holidays.
These toilets will do more than improve sanitation. They will give girls the privacy and safety they need to stay in school, thrive, and plan for a better future.
Across Sub-Saharan Africa, 1 in 10 girls miss school during their period.
Why? Because schools lack the basic sanitation facilities, they need to manage their menstruation with safety and privacy.
That’s up to 20% of the school year lost because there’s nowhere safe to go to the toilet. The consequences don’t stop there:
And when girls drop out, the effects ripple across communities: reduced economic, independence, poor health outcomes, and cycles of poverty that are harder to break.
With your help, we’ll build 22 clean, private, and secure toilet blocks, complete with handwashing stations at our partner school in Tanzania. These facilities will:
✅ Provide dignity and privacy during menstruation
✅ Reduce school absences
✅ Improve health outcomes
✅ Empower girls to stay in school
This isn’t just about infrastructure. It’s about:
Education is a powerful tool for change – but only if students can stay in school. By addressing something as fundamental as access to toilets, we are removing a major barrier to learning, especially for girls.
Your support directly contributes to these 3 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
By providing safe sanitation, we empower girls to manage their periods with dignity and stay in school. Access to toilets is a matter of basic gender equity.
✊ Toilets are not just infrastructure – they are tools of empowerment.
Unsafe toilets expose students to infections and disease. By building proper sanitation facilities and promoting hygiene education, we protect the physical and mental wellbeing of hundreds of students. Healthier students are happier, more focused, and more likely to attend school consistently.
🚰 Clean toilets = clean hands = healthier futures.
When students – especially girls – have access to clean, functional toilets, they’re more likely to stay in school and perform well. Our toilet initiative removes a key barrier to education, helping to build a stronger foundation for lifelong learning.
📚 No child should miss school because they don’t have a safe place to go.
We need your support. We’re calling on all our supporters to help us. Whether it’s a donation or simply spreading the word, your involvement can spark real, measurable change.
