The latest from India – March 2020!

Written by our India Team

As our team is a little dispersed at the moment, we are working together remotely to support one another while we reminisce about happier times, like the day we picked up our last group from Kangra Airport and our biggest concern was taking happy selfies!

A special message from Neha

“During this difficult time we all are together and I really salute the doctors, nurses, policemen and all other frontline workers who have been working day and night for our safety. I strongly feel that social distancing and lockdown are the most potent social vaccine to combat corona virus. India is thoroughly equipped and it’s putting it’s best foot forward against COVID 19. I really thank God that Palampur and it’s adjoining area has not reported any case till date and I pray that this COVID-19 pandemic ends as quickly as possible. Stay home to be safe and take care of the people around you!”

COVID-19 on the ground

India is currently in lockdown, which means that the country’s 1.3 billion
people have been ordered to stay in their homes, with few exceptions being made. There has been over 6400 active cases reported and 199 deaths, with numbers rising by the hour. Luckily the area in which we work has been relatively untouched.

Program Focus

Our community coordinator Neha is busy undertaking research to help inform the future of our programs, while Jordy our Program Manager is working on our country strategy
which will guide our programs and vision over the next few years. We are also looking at a COVID-19 emergency response plan and our
priority is getting in touch with the communities we work in to figure out how we can best support them during lockdown, and into the future as they begin to recover from this
pandemic.
