The Issue
- 621 million young people aged 15-24 years old are not in education, employment or training.
- Youth are 2.7 times more likely to be unemployed than adults.
- Global economic recession post COVID-19 will impact every nation, the lower-income nations will be affected more drastically. According to The World Bank, recessions are “expected to reverse years of progress toward development goals and tip tens of millions of people back into extreme poverty.
The Impact
Our Programme Approach
Based on the primary issue of youth unemployment, lack of skill development and workplace opportunity in the formal sector, our Livelihood & Income Generation Programme has been designed with young adults in mind. With the belief that access and opportunity can lead to success, we aim to enhance employment and entrepreneurial opportunity for our beneficiaries, however skill development for formal sector employment is integral to improving the statistics. Through this, we aim to engage our beneficiaries in two ways:
- Employment Support: Engaging youth about to enter the workforce with soft and technical skill development related to strengthening their employability, such as CV and interview skills, computer classes and development of conversational English.
- Enterprises and Business: Recognising the issue of job scarcity, we believe in building skills alongside opportunities for work through beginning new enterprises, as well as partnering with businesses to train up quality candidates. The aim is to support the job market by creating new opportunities for work through enterprises and strengthening the outputs of existing businesses through business and skill training and development.
